As he was detained by the Guardia Civil hours after his return to Spain to be informed of the new cases against him, all eyes were on the Spanish cycle The targeta traditional television program that broadcast the interview that journalist Ana Pastor conducted with Rubiales.

Over there, The former president has defended all the charges he is accused of: from the causes of the kiss to the player Jennifer Hermoso to the possible crimes of money laundering, corporate corruption, incorrect administration and membership of a criminal organization.

According to the same journalist, The recording was supposed to take place at Rubiales’ home in the Central American country, but at the last minute they had to move to a hotel before the surprise appearance of the police at his home to carry out a search.

Rubiales began by clarifying that his return to Spain should not seem strange to anyone, given that he remains in the service of the law. “My lawyers have sent a letter to the court to inform them I was available for them when they called me to clarify any management”.

And regarding the delay in returning he confesses: «Holy Week is involved… here I have my accounts blocked“It was difficult for me to change my plane ticket.”

“I don’t even have the ability to pay for a Coca-Cola. I had everything blocked one day in the Dominican Republic and five days ago in Spain, without having done anything,” exemplified Rubiales.

Not only were his bank accounts confiscated, but he also admitted that his cell phones were disabled. Furthermore, the situation gave him the opportunity to explain the reasons why he emigrated to the American continent. “I didn’t want to be in the spotlight. I wanted to be somewhere to start from scratch. In December I received a communication from the bank telling me that I had to leave that bank. It’s clear they don’t want me to be in Spain. I will not give up my country. I love my country and my people. But I also have to earn an honest living.”

Forcefully, he added: “I was trying to start doing business. Here (Dominican Republic) and other places. I signed a contract with a Korean company for $1.8 million over three years. They called me and terminated the contract because they had received a lot of pressure from Spain“.

After being consulted on the corruption case against him, Rubiales completely denied everything and also tried to draw attention to other characters who “earn much more”. “I took such a beating from the media that it was impossible for me to work in Spain.“was one of his repeated phrases.

“They don’t want to let me earn a living either in football or outside of football. I got a sanction. Even in the world of football they don’t want to leave me out. There are people who earn much more than me in football and no one blushes like that. I declared everything to the agency. I’ve never taken a bite of it in my life“, he expressed.

However, the interviewer Pastor, faithful to her recognized style, pressed Rubiales with several cross-questions about the cases and investigations against her.

Given the tenacity, the former manager underlined: “I believe you are in the devastating current against people who have not been proven anything. Comments on your questions“.

And he once again dissociated himself from the accusations. “I’m here today to say it it’s a lie that I hit a home run here, that I have a baseball team here, that it’s a lie that I hit a ball in Cape Verde. Which has land for the construction of hotels in Saudi Arabia. This is all a lie“, he defended himself.

Although he clarified that the only victims of the situation are his “family and friends”. “I never said that I am a victim of everything. We are in a society where the presumption is that of the guilty party and not that of the victim”, she said.

After an initial focus on the corruption investigation, Rubiales also doesn’t mince words when referring to Jenni Hermoso and the cause of the non-consensual kiss given to the footballer during the champion award ceremony of the Australia-New Zealand 2023 World Cup, on 20 August.

Just as he was proven innocent for his alleged crime of illegal money trafficking, Rubiales was not even classified as a “sex offender.” “Whoever sees the images, I really can’t understand why anyone thinks this is a sexual assault. If there’s a doctor who gives us truth serum, they ask me if I’ve ever been with a prostitute and I go and say no,” he said.

In the midst of his statements, Rubiales showed his first sign of regret for the situation that gave rise to the scandal: “I made a mistake because in an awards ceremony it should have been more institutional”, although he immediately continued: “I have a clear conscience. For me and my daughters. They witnessed it and they were there. I also hit them and did not sexually assault them.“.

In this sense he stated: “A sex offender doesn’t ask. In the context there was nothing sexual. She tells me it’s fine. Even in a story she recognizes him. There are before and after videos. Let everyone have their own opinion of her. In no case was there any assault“.

At the same time, he accused Hermoso of “changing his story.”

“He had the same opinion as me. Then he changed his mind. I didn’t. I continue to maintain that there is nothing. No one will be able to prove that there was pressure. So to speak, but in the Spanish judicial system it is necessary to act with evidence“Added Rubiales in this regard.

“After everything she’s been through, is your defense attacking Jenni Hermoso?” Ana Pastor interrupted him.

And to conclude the topic he stated: “You can’t interrogate Jennifer Hermoso and can I? What they want to do is limit freedom of thought. There were other media outlets that I asked to come and do this interview and they didn’t want to do it.“.

Finally, to frame the whole situation around him, Rubiales closed: “I believe in the law. There are some things that could be improved but I believe in the law, I’m a lawyer.”

The former RFEF president’s stay in Spain is indefinite. In addition to making himself available to the Civil Guard and the Prosecutor’s Office, another of the reasons that pushed him to return to his native country was the search to reopen his bank accounts.

Last week The Prosecutor’s Office requested a two and a half year prison sentence for the crimes of sexual violence and coercion. In addition to the prison sentence, the public prosecutor is asking for Rubiales to be banned from working in the sports field during the sentence, two years of probation and a ban on communicating with the player or approaching her within a radius of 200 meters for four years.
