The appeal filed by Algeria against arbitration in the qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup lost against Cameroon has been rejected by FIFA.
FIFA considers the case is closed.
After winning the first leg 1-0 in Cameroon, the Algerian national team (les Fennecs) were eliminated 2-1 on March 29 in the second leg at home by a goal recorded in the final seconds of Karl’s extra time- Ekambi Store.
On March 31, the Algerian Soccer Federation (FAF) announced that it had filed an appeal with FIFA and asked to replay the match due to scandalous arbitration by Gambian Bakary Gassama.
FIFA’s committee of referees rejected this request, according to a letter made public on Saturday by the Algerian federation.
We regret that, according to your analysis, the referees ’decisions may have negatively influenced the course of the match. (…) All incidents that occurred during the match were carefully reviewed by two video referees, in accordance with the rules of the game and the video assistance protocol for refereeingwritten by the commission.
FIFA confirmed that the FAF had taken over its disciplinary committee and requested the review of its arbitration committee.
FIFA responded to the FAF on these two files and considered the file closedsaid a FIFA spokesman in an email to AFP.
Algerian coach Djamel Belmadi has repeatedly criticized the refereeing of this match in particular and the African refereeing in general.
In Algeria, the dismissal of the national team (the Fennecs) was experienced as a national tragedy. Fans have demonstrated several times in front of FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
