Brazil is the country that exports the most soccer players to foreign leagues ahead of France and Argentina, according to an annual study released by the CIES Soccer Observatory.

A total of 1,219 Brazilian soccer players play abroad, while there are 978 French and 815 Argentines playing in foreign leagues. England (525), Germany (441), Colombia (425) and Spain (409) are the countries following them in this particular list.

While the number of Brazilians and Argentines abroad has experienced a slight increase since 2017 with growth of 4 and 6%, respectively. the number of French ‘expatriates’ has changed tremendously with an increase of 27%.

Meanwhile, English grew by 25%, Germans by 31%, Colombians by 41%and Spanish by 14%. Noteworthy was the 86% increase in exports of soccer players to Venezuela and 81% of soccer players to Ecuadorian.

Destinations

The main destination of soccer players in Brazil is Portugal. There are 231 playing teams from the motherland leagues. The next destination is Japan, where there are 79 players in green and yellow. The South American giant had representatives in 85 of the 88 destinations reviewed.

Where do most Argentines go? The majority (127) have Chile as their stopover, followed by Spain (67) and Italy (56). Mexico (52), Peru (47), Ecuador (46) and Bolivia and the United States (both with 40) are the leagues where our team visits the most, with a presence in 73 countries studied.

And the French? Luxembourg (123) and Belgium (96), two minor leagues in Europe, are opening the doors for them – in total there are Gauls in 66 of the 88 destinations reviewed.

Meanwhile, the English went to Scotland (146) and Wales (112). More destinations? Most of the Germans went to Turkey, the Colombians found refuge in Mexico and the Spaniards went to England.
