Victor Hedman, Roman Josi and Cale Makar are the finalists for the Norris Trophy, which is awarded annually to defenseman par excellence by the National Hockey League (NHL).
Hedman, of the Tampa Bay Lightning, is runner-up for the sixth consecutive season. He won the trophy in 2018.
The Swede finished third among defensemen with 85 points, including 20 goals, in 82 games this season.
Roman Josi led with 23 goals and 73 assists, including 11 power-play goals and 281 shots, in 80 games with the Nashville Predators.
The Swiss became the first defenseman in the league to accumulate at least 90 points in a season since Raymond Bourque (91) with the Boston Bruins in 1993-94.
Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche is the most goal-scoring defenseman this season with 28, and is second to Josi on 86 points.
Makar is already a finalist in 2021. If he is selected this time, he will be the first Avalanche defenseman to win the trophy.
The Norris Trophy will be awarded at the NHL ceremony during the playoffs, conference finals or Stanley Cup Finals.
New York Rangers defender Adam Fox was awarded in 2021.
