A minor soccer assistant referee was attacked over the past few days by an adult who came down from the stand to confront him, an action strongly condemned by Soccer Quebec.

The scene was shot by a bystander and posted on social media. It was shared several times throughout the day on Monday. The facts will take place over the weekend, in a match between two U14 teams.

So far, we do not know the circumstances of the attack and the age of the referee involved, but Soccer Quebec has confirmed that he is a minor.

What was important for us at first was to make sure that the young referee was performing well in the circumstances and that he was well surrounded, said Mathieu Chamberland, general manager of Soccer Quebec. But I have no doubt condemned this aggression and I remind you that there is no reason, absolutely no reason, that justifies an officer’s attack, it is zero tolerance.

The referees ended the game and reported the attack to authorities.

Soccer Quebec also says it conducts reviews: to seize its authorities in matters of discipline.

The federation encourages everyone who has witnessed acts of violence against a referee to report it to the competent authorities.
