Chile’s claim against Ecuador for the nationality of the soccer player Byron Castillo, who played eight games in the Qualifiers that qualified Gustavo Alfaro’s team for Qatar 2022, has a new chapter. And the news coming from Zurich is positive for the Red team which maintains the illusion of getting into the World Cup through the desk if its claim is successful. That is, this morning, FIFA opened an investigation to confirm whether Chile’s complaint was substantiated and whether Tricolor deserved sanctions in the matter.

The conflict erupted when the Chilean Football Federation denounced Castillo as actually Colombian and not Ecuadorian. And he sent a formal complaint to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee requesting that the facts be “thoroughly investigated.”

Now, the mother house of world football is opening a window to Chile’s claims and, at the very least, is willing to study the case: “FIFA has decided to open disciplinary proceedings in connection with Byron David Castillo Segura’s possible violation of the call standard for implied matches“Said a statement released this morning.

In total, Byron Castillo played eight Qualifying games for Ecuador against Uruguay, Bolivia, Venezuela, Argentina, Paraguay and Chile. The point is, although the Red had only 19 points, compared to 24 for Peru to enter the playoffs, the opposing players participated in the same game against the trans-Andes team. In other words, if Ecuador deducts points from eight games (it qualifies with 26) it will lose the match and its direct ticket to Qatar will go to the Chileans who will add 26.

Until a few days ago, the 23-year-old soccer player was so calm that he even had the luxury of making publications from his Instagram account: “Watch us on TV”, he scoffs at claimed by Chile.

In other stories he shared on his personal account, he hinted at music: “You criticize me because I do everything you can’t” description of one of the songs shared. The right back also added another very harsh letter “I have been exposed to criticisms from good people, humble people, stupid people” and continued the most critical part “parasites who want to hurt of someone else ”where he finished the publication.

It should be noted that Ecuador is part of Group A and will face the teams of Qatar, Holland and Senegal. Of course, now FIFA has put a small asterisk in that area and Chile wants to take its place.

FIFA Statement

As FIFA recently confirmed, the Chilean Football Federation has filed a complaint with the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, in which it highlights various allegations about the possible falsification of documents granting Ecuadorian nationality to player Byron David Castillo Segura, as well as the possible non -compliance of said football player with the call standard to participate with the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) national team in eight qualifying matches, which correspond to the preliminary stage of Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup ™.

Given the foregoing, FIFA has decided to open disciplinary proceedings in connection with Byron David Castillo Segura’s possible violation of the call standard for implied matches. In this context, the FEF and the Peruvian Football Federation are invited to present their positions before the FIFA Disciplinary Committee
