The 2027 Rugby World Cup will be played in Australia and the next in the United States, supported by Joe Biden

Australia will host the 2027 Rugby World Cup and the United States in 2031, the World Rugby (WR) steering committee announced today at the body’s headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.

In addition, as WR reported on its official site, the venues for the women’s world championships have been confirmed: in 2025 it will take place in England; in 2029, in Australia; and in 2033, in the United States.

In this framework, the organization’s president Sir Bill Beaumont said: “We have approved three unique host nations for the Rugby World Cup: England, Australia and the United States, providing unparalleled certainty and an unparalleled opportunity. to accelerate the growth and impact of rugby around the world. It’s great for rugby, the fans and the host nation. “

For his part, the head of Rugby Australia, Hamish McLennan, said it was “a historic day for Australian rugby” and that they are “more than excited to accept not one, but two World Cups”.

“It will change rugby in this country, it is a once in a generation opportunity to revitalize and ensure the future of rugby in this country,” McLennan said.

United States and his first time

As for the United States, this is the culmination of a long development project for rugby, particularly in Major League Rugby. President Joe Biden also boosted the US candidacy.

Those voices were also accompanied by USA Rugby CEO Ross Young, who said: “I speak on behalf of the rugby community and fans in the United States when I express our sincere gratitude to World Rugby. for your trust and support in our vision to grow this incredible sport exponentially across our country.

“The United States fully supports the effort to bring the 2031 Men’s Rugby World Cup Tournament and the 2033 Women’s Rugby World Cup Tournament to our country and hopes to work with Rugby World Cup Limited to help make it happen. The most successful Rugby World cup in history, ”said a letter Biden sent to international rugby authorities in late April.

So far, the men’s World Cups are as follows:

+ 1987 in Australia and New Zealand, New Zealand champion.

+ 1991 in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France, champion in Australia.

+ 1995 in South Africa, champion in South Africa

+ 1999 in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France, champion in Australia

+ 2003 in Australia, champion in England

+ 2007 in France, Wales and Scotland, champion in South Africa

+ 2011 in New Zealand, New Zealand champion

+ 2015 in England and Wales, New Zealand champions’

+ 2019 in Japan, champion in South Africa
