Bianca Andreescu fought her best, but Hurricane Iga Swiatek continued her demolition in WTA tournaments.

By eliminating the 2019 United States Open champion 7-6 (7/2) and 6-0 on Friday in the quarterfinals in Rome, Pole recorded his 26th consecutive victory. He hasn’t lost since February.

After a very tight first set, marked by several service breaks, he left, leaving his rival in his wake on the Roman ocher.

Swiatek won 14 of the first 15 runs in the second set. This is the 13th time this season that he has made a bagel.

The world No. 1 is particularly effective in return service. He converted six to six break points.

The favorite made 27 winning strokes, against 14 unforced errors, while Andreescu was satisfied with 12 winning strokes and a lot of mistakes.

However, the two were almost equal in the first set.

Every time the defending champion broke his rival, Ontario immediately responded. In the second round, Andreescu had a consecutive streak to break, as Swiatek never lost a match in a WTA 1000 tournament after winning the opening round.

Despite the defeat and the intensity of the score in the second set, the sky was far from dark for the Canadian who has only played in the third tournament since he returned after the break that began in October.

After winning one game in Stuttgart and two in Madrid, he left the Italian capital with three victories. The three losses he has suffered so far are against players in the top 15 in the world.

With his participation in the quarter-finals, he drops approximately twenty ranks in the next ranking publication, around 72nd place.

Some Roland-Garros bones would probably prefer not to find it on their side of the table.

In the semi-finals, Swiatek will face Aryna Sabalenka.

The Belarusian earned her ticket to the semi-finals after a long battle with Amanda Anisimova in three sets of 4-6, 6-3 and 6-2.

The American, 32nd in the WTA, started the meeting well, but then he slowed down and made more mistakes to provide ground.

Unable to finish, Anisimova won just five games in the final set. Remember, however, that he was able to win the exchange with the five break points he got in the fight.

This was Sabalenka’s first win in their fifth encounter. Anisimova leads the series 4-1. In their last match, in Madrid, the American won by scores of 6-2, 3-6 and 6-4.
