The Edmonton Oilers beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-0 in Game 7 of the series. Connor McDavid had a goal and assist and Mike Smith made 28 saves for his second playoff shutout.
The Oilers had another strong start to the game. From the first moments, they continued to attack, not forgiving the Kings players who found themselves in the bands on several occasions.
Leon Draisaitl, who appears to have injured his ankle in Game 6 on Thursday in Los Angeles does not appear to be at 100 percent capacity. He made six appearances on the ice for a game time of five minutes forty -seven seconds.
Connor McDavid is the most used player with seven minutes and fifty -six seconds. He led two shots on Jonathan Quick and led his team with Zack Kassian with three hits.
In the second period, the Oilers bombarded Jonathan Quick’s net with 25 shots. Eight of their shots were blocked by a Kings player and nine others missed the target.
Cody Ceci was the only one able to surpass the Kings goaltender. After receiving a pass from Connor McDavid, he scored with a hard shot.
Kailer Yamamoto didn’t get an assist on goal, but he had a great game before it. Installed on the blue line, he prevented a Kings clearance by jumping into the air to keep the puck in visitor territory, the Oilers scored on the same possession of the puck.
A few minutes ago, Evander Kane thought he had scored. He did push the puck behind Quick, but Andreas Athanasiou was able to clear the puck before it crossed the goal line.
At the top of the third, the Oilers continued to move forward, while carefully tackling to protect their meager lead.
Kailer Yamamoto who was left alone in the slot hit the post to the right of Quick, then the latter thought he had missed a shot from Zack Kassian. He looked for the puck behind him, but he survived.
With 3:53 left on the stage, Connor McDavid rolled the net for Quick to survive. The captain grabbed his return and scored from the backhand.
The Oilers in Game 7
This is the first time since 1990 that Game Seven has been played in Edmonton. That year, the Oilers beat the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the playoffs, before winning the Stanley Cup.
The Oilers ’last win in Game 7 was in 1998 against the Colorado Avalanche. Since that victory, the team has lost twice in the seventh game, in 2006 in the final in Carolina and in 2017 in the second round against the Ducks in Anaheim in 2017.
