There was an almost unanimous agreement in the world of boxing that drew to a split decision on July 17 in San Antonio, Texas, that hurt Argentine Brian Castaño in the search for four super welterweight world titles against the American. Jermell Charlo.

The Buenos Aires native is held by the World Organization (WBO) and Charlo the other three (WBC, WBA and FIB). With his courage and his offensive continuity, he got the necessary points of advantage until the tenth round that the local’s late reaction could not compensate for, beyond the questionable decision of Puerto Rico jury Nelson Vázquez.

So then difficult negotiations with four governing international boxing (each with an obligatory challenger) this rematch was set up elsewhere. At the time, we thought the Americans were underestimating Castaño’s situation and that he did not arrive in optimal condition for combat.

Although the general concept is shared that the winner is the Argentine, we assume that this confrontation will be different.

The people in charge of Castaño’s race (Sebastián Contursi) got two postponements of the first date scheduled for the end of February. The second, announced for March, was postponed for May 14 due to a biceps injury, suspicious in Charlo’s camp.

This time Jermell (Jermall’s twin brother, middleweight champion) entered. perfect physical condition and has a verbose vindictive claim. And it was noticeable from the start. With another ease and remote management with his precise containment jabs and a few quick 1-2s supported by quick legs, he showed from the start that he was there to control progress.

Castaño’s decision to find him using his power and the success of a few explosions kept the numbers balanced until the sixth round. A the higher quality of his rival’s boxing, the undefeated Argentine defied his stubborn quest even without using convenient upward strokes when he was able to close the distance.

From the seventh attack began a glimpse of what would be the mark of American superiority. With his relentless footwork and his long bang, he asserted his leading role as Castaño’s resistance seemed to wane, perhaps overwhelmed by increasing fatigue, which was more than a few explosions raising public enthusiasm that almost filled with Carson’s Dignity Health Sports, neighbors of the Los Angeles Galaxy stadium, the soccer team previously directed by the Barros Schelotto twins (who almost simultaneously played in the match). Dignity, with a capacity for more than 10,000 people, is set up on tennis courts surrounding the stadium.

In contrast to the previous match, it is noteworthy that those with the most and best physical rest were Charlo and Castaño didn’t seem to achieve good athletic performance in the gym. And so the American added distances until the tenth round – our card at the end of the ninth marked him 87-84 – when he finally hit a an explosive left foot knocking Boxi down.

Costly was able to get up but was utterly defeated. Three consecutive left-handed shots -of different bills- from Charlo established the final knockout. And a few moments of suspense awoke until the Argentine boxer reacted.

Everything was very different in the clash in July. Jermell Charlo showed this time that he is a great champion and has won all the super welterweight titles. Brian Castaño had the answers for half the fight. In grace and dignity. Perhaps he lacks a better physical condition. But it is very far from a clearly superior rival. By knockout and invincible.
