Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene and relief pitcher Art Warren both didn’t give up on Sunday, but their performance doesn’t count as a game without a hitter – or even a win.

The Pirates got a run in the eighth inning to save themselves with a 1-0 win over the Reds in Pittsburgh.

This is the sixth time since 1901 that a team has won without being hit. The last time that happened was in 2008, when the Los Angeles Angels beat Jered Weaver and Jose Arredondo to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Under Major League Baseball rules, the Reds ’stunt was not considered a no-hitter because the pitchers did not enter in the ninth inning.

At a time where everything is possible to go wrong for the Reds, this is definitely the worst event.

Greene, a coveted Reds rookie, was removed from the game after allowing two walks in the eighth inning. He had 118 pitches in the game, a season-high among the league’s major pitchers.

Warren walked over to Ben Gamel and loaded the bases. Ke’Bryan Hayes hit a ground ball that resulted in a decisive point.

The Reds batters did nothing in the ninth inning and ended the game without celebration for the Cincinnati club, which has the worst record in baseball.

There are two no-hitter games this season. Angels rookie Reid Detmers won against the Tampa Bay Rays last week, and five Mets pitchers paired up to close out the Philadelphia Phillies on April 29th.
