The American Soccer Federation announced Wednesday that it has reached a “historic” agreement with the associations of players of its choice, formalizing equal pay between the women’s team and the men’s team.
The two collective agreements, which will run until 2028, make it possible to achieve equal wages through equal economic terms.detailed the federation in a press release.
The announcement comes months after the federation’s first preliminary agreement with a group of players, including star Megan Rapinoe, began legal proceedings against the authority in 2019. It was then that US Soccer had promised to pay the women’s national team at the same level as the men’s team.
This is truly a historic moment. These agreements are changing the sport forever here in the United States, and they have the potential to change the sport around the world.US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone said in the same statement.
National Team Players Association (USWNTPA) President Becky Sauerbrunn also accepted the deal.
The achievements of this collective agreement are a reflection of the work done by the national team players on and off the field.said the 36-year-old defender, international with 202 caps.
With four World Cup victories and as many gold medals at the Olympic Games, the United States women’s national soccer team is the most successful in the history of the sport on the women’s side.
