Rebecca Marino defeated Katarina Zavatska 6-1, 6-2 on Wednesday in the second round of French Open qualifying. Here he is a victory away from the main draw.
The Canadian, who seeded 9th in qualifying, defeated the Ukrainian who ranked 210th in the WTA after 1 hour 3 minutes on clay in Paris.
The 31-year-old British Columbian once again exploited his strength to outdo his rival, primarily by firing seven aces, against zero for Zavatska.
In addition, Marino won 77% of the points in his first serve, and he converted six of his nine break points. Zavatska didn’t get many chances to break the Maple Leaf representative, but he still recorded two breaks in three.
Marino, the 116th player in the world, will face in the final round of the qualifying draw the winner of the match between Australian Seone Mendez (no 223) and American Caroline Dolehide (no 173). This duel will take place later on Wednesday.
The Canadian is trying to enter the main draw at Roland Garros for the fourth time in his career, and the first in eight years. He got his best result in singles by reaching the third round.
The French Open will be officially held on Sunday.
