Merentiel is already posing with verdao.
Defense and Justice today confirmed the sale of Uruguayan scorer Miguel Merentiel to Palmeiras, from Brazil, currently two -time Copa Libertadores de América champions.
Florencio Varela’s club reported through a statement on its official website the sale of “Beast” Merentiel to the São Paulo team without specifying the details of the operation.
Palmeiras, for his part, announced that the Uruguayan has already signed a contract until June 30, 2026 and will only be able to play from July 18.
Merentiel, 26, arrived at “Halcón” from Godoy Cruz in September 2020 and in total he played 79 games, scored 27 goals and was part of the Copa Sudamericana and Recopa Sudamericana titles.
On this mark, Uruguayan is among the top ten scorers in the history of Defense and Justice.
The squad led by Sebastián Beccacece is experiencing a significant drop before the next LPF tournament as only Agustín Fontana (16 games and 1 goal) and Lucas Albertengo (7 games and 2 goals) will remain in that position.
“The truth is it’s something inexplicable and wonderful. I’m very happy to be the current two-time champion of America. I’ll do my best and give everything for this team. For my career, it’s is something very big, I went from a rival team to the biggest from South America. I will live it in the best way, I will give everything for this club, “Merentiel said on the official website of Palmeiras.
The Beast, as it is known in Uruguayan, began his career with the Peñarol youth teams in Uruguay but also wore El Tanque Sisley shirts in that part of the Río de la Plata. In his brief stint in Spain he played at Lorca and Valencia Mestalla and then jumped on Godoy Cruz, the step before his successful stint in Defense and Justice where he remained until this season.
