The Canadian record for the 100m (9 sec 84/100) was tied by 1996 Olympic champion Donovan Bailey and 1995 and 1999 world vice-champion Bruny Surin.

Andre De Grasse ran the 100m in 9 sec 89/100 in Japan to climb the Olympic podium.

He had already run the 100m in 9 sec 69/100 in 2017, but had very favorable winds (4.8 m/s) for the time to be approved.
