Canada was beaten by Switzerland at the World Hockey Championship

Dean Kukan and Nico Hischier hit the target in power play, Denis Malgin added two assists to his record and Switzerland beat Canada 6-3 on Saturday at the World Hockey Championship.

Michael Fora, Jonas Siegenthaler, Pius Suter and Timo Meier-in an empty net-completed the scoring for Switzerland (5-0-0-0) at Helsinki Ice Palace.

Kent Johnson opened the scoring for the Canadians (4-0-0-1), who suffered their first defeat in the preliminary round.

Adam Lowry and Drake Batherson also darkened the score sheet for Maple Leaf representatives.

Canada will face Denmark on Monday.

In other games, Denmark closed out France 3-0 in Group A, while the United States beat Sweden 3-2 in extra time in Group B. Finland also closed out Austria 3-0 in Group B.

The Italy-Slovakia match will take place later in Group A, as well as the Norway-Czech Republic duel in Group B.
