Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Southampton and the 2-2 draw between Manchester City and West Ham left life in the Premier League and postponed the definition for a final date, promising to be exciting .

This Sunday, at 12 (Argentina time), Guardiola’s team (90 points and +72 goal difference) will receive Aston Villa in search of success that will ensure the assignment. In case that doesn’t happen, he has to hope that Klopp’s staff (89 and +66) don’t beat Wolverhampton.

History of similar meanings in the Premier League

theThroughout the history of the Premier League Era, from the 1992/93 season to the present, there have been eight occasions where the title has been determined on a final date. And in each of them the team that came as leader became the champion.

The most emblematic case, without any doubt, was the 2011-12 campaign in Sergio Aguero’s struggling goal against Queens Park Rangers. City, managed by Roberto Mancini at the time and with Tevez and Zabaleta in the starters, lost 2-1 at halftime and had to take it back, as their classic rival beat Sunderland and snatched the crown. The miracle happened: Dzeko tied it at 92 and Kun won at 94 to the delirium of the public present at the Etihad.

After three consecutive titles, Chelsea ended Manchester United’s reign in 2009-10. They beat Wigan 8-0 by hat-trick from Didier Drogbawhich did not allow Ferguson’s staff, who beat Stoke City 4-0, to catch up.

In the 2013-14 season, the same meaning next Sunday. Without as much drama as two years ago, City also had to wait until the last day to celebrate their second Premier League crown. They were in no hurry to deliver West Ham 2-0 thanks to goals from Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany, while Liverpool finished second, two points behind, after beating Newcastle 2-1 at home.

The latest history also between Guardiola’s City and Klopp’s Liverpoolit is in 2018-19 campaign. Despite the start of the defeat to Brighton, the Citizens left no room for doubt in their 4-1 victory, with Aguero’s goal, making the Reds ’2-0 win over Wolverhampton meaningless. at Anfield.
