Mika Zibanejad had a goal and assist on Sunday as the Rangers finally overcame the Carolina Hurricanes’ tight defense to win 3-1 in New York.
The Rangers cut the Hurricanes series to 2-1 after scoring just one goal in the first two games.
After Zibanejad opened the scoring in the first period, Chris Kreider doubled the lead early in the second period.
Tyler Motte confirmed victory for Gerard Gallant’s staff on an empty net.
Goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin was imperial and made 43 saves in the win. He only allowed four goals in the series.
It was only the second time in the last 10 meetings between the two teams that the Rangers had won the awards.
Nino Niederreiter is the lone scorer for the Hurricanes. Their goalkeeper Antti Raanta stopped 30 shots.
