The Canadian selection led by Claude Julien was at fault for lack of discipline on Monday, losing to Denmark (4-2-0) in its last game in the preliminary round of the World Hockey Championship, in Tempere, Finland.
Canada (4-2-0) suffered its second straight loss after losing to Switzerland on Saturday.
Markus Lauridsen, Peter Regin, short of a man, and Mathias Bau, in power play, tricked the guard of goalkeeper Chris Driedger who gave up 3 times in 24 shots. His opponent Sebastian Dahm saved 29 of 31 pucks against him.
Canada’s scanty offensive response came from Maxime Comtois and Ryan Graves, the latter with less than four minutes left.
Comtois also received, midway through the second period, a large penalty for a blow to the head that also resulted in his ejection from the game.
The Danes lead the Canadians in 3rd place in the Group A standings by virtue of the result of the match they won. Their records were the same before the confrontation began.
We will have to wait for the end of the last Group B match, Tuesday, to find out the identity of Canada’s opponents in the quarter-finals.
