Julian Alaphilippe joined his training colleagues for an altitude course in Spain. He still hopes to join the Tour de France.
Quick-Step announced this in a press release on Tuesday. The conditions are perfect, the team says, which makes it easy back to work of the world champion.
Of course, I still can’t do the same job as all the guys here, warns the 29-year-old cyclist. I need time to practice and get back in shape. And I still have to be careful not to push my wounds too hard.
Before reuniting with his teammates in Sierra Nevada, southern Spain, Julian Alaphilippe had a final check-up in Herentals, Belgium, where he was treated after his fall on April 24.
The good news is that my lungs have fully recovered, which of course makes me very happy. Fractured bones still hurt which is really normal because these injuries take longer to recover but I was told I was already cleaned up to start traininghe explained.
Note that Julian Alaphilippe was seriously injured in the fall during the classic Liège-Bastogne-Liège. A fall that caused him hemopneumothorax, fracture of the scapula and two fractures of the rib.
He was back on his road bike.
I spent a few days on the rollers. It was great, but I was really happy to try and spend some time on the road, he says. A few days later, I had no bad feelings and decided that I would join the team for training camp in the Sierra Nevada.he pointed out.
However, Alaphilippe does not know when he will resume competition.
It is really important not to rush and continue to persevere, he added. But the Tour de France option is still open, I still have it in mind.
Departure is set for July 1, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Julian Alaphilippe has won six Grande Boucle stages since 2018, and he wore the yellow jersey for 18 days.
