The MacKinnon hat trick wasn’t enough for the Avalanche

Leading 3-0 in the second period, the Colorado Avalanche looks set to eliminate the Saint Louis Blues in five games on Wednesday night, but this second-round West series will require a sixth game.

The Blues were able to tie the game in the third, then after a legendary play from Nathan MacKinnon completed his hat trick with less than three minutes to play and put the Avalanche ahead 4-3, Saint Louis again equalized the extra time.

Tyler Bozak scored the game-winning goal after 3:38 in extra time and the Blues will meet their fans again in Game 6, but will face elimination again. Colorado led 3-2.

Nathan MacKinnon scored the first two goals of the game, in the first period, then Gabriel Landeskog made it 3-0.

But Vladimir Tarasenko, Robert Thomas, in his first fight, and Justin Faulk joined forces to create equality before MacKinnon’s extraordinary rise.

But Thomas scored his second in the game with 56 seconds left to give life to the Blues.
