Jean-Sébastien Dea’s goal in the third overtime allowed the Laval Rocket to beat Rochester Americans 6-5 and advance to the American Hockey League conference final on Wednesday night.
The Laval team thus swept the series 3-0.
Dea’s net was possible due to a late goal from Jesse Ylönen in the third period.
Xavier Ouellet, Brandon Gignac, Danick Martel and Dea were the regulation-time scorers for the Rockets, who took a 4-2 lead with four goals in the second period. But the Americans scored three times in the third to regain a 5-4 lead before Ylönen’s goal.
The star of the game, however, was American goaltender Aaron Dell who made 54 saves, including 23 in the first two periods of overtime.
Jean-François Houle’s squad won 3-1 and 6-1 in the first two games, played at Place Bell. In the Eastern Conference Finals, the Rocket will face the series winner between the Charlotte Checkers and Springfield Thunderbirds in a best-of-7 series. The Checkers led the 2-0 series on Wednesday night.
