Britain’s Lewis Hamilton put his nose ring ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix of Formula 1 after the motorsport governing body extended an exemption for drivers wearing jewelery until the end of June.
Hamilton was granted a temporary two-race waiver to eliminate the hole, a process he explained required surgical intervention. That was all that covered the Miami GP and Spanish GP over the weekend, meaning he would be forced to miss the race in Monaco if the rules were strictly enforced.
The FIA waiver also covers Azerbaijan on June 12 and Canada on June 19. Discussions took place after a briefing of drivers at the Spanish GP, with the goal of learning how to wear jewelry safely.
“It’s really positive that we’re working with (the FIA) and I think they’re pretty comfortable right now,” Hamilton said before the first training session on Friday.
However, the British remain frustrated in this matter.

“Honestly, I feel like a lot of time and energy is being put into it. I’ve said everything I think I should say about it in the last two races and I’m not going to focus on that this weekend.“said Hamilton.” We don’t have to check it every weekend. We definitely have bigger fish to fry. “
Hamilton protested the FIA’s crackdown on body piercing in Miami. He arrived at the paddock with at least four necklaces stacked and was eventually found to have at least three watches and four rings on each hand, along with his earrings and nose ring.
The FIA has tightened its ban on non-regulatory underwear and body piercing with a rule as part of the official investigation, meaning such options are subject to scrutiny by race officials.
