Real Madrid have won the UEFA Champions League again. The Spanish club clinched their 14th European title on Saturday after beating Liverpool FC 1-0 in the final at the Stade de France.
Winger Vinicius Junior broke the lead in the 59th minute with a one-timer, completing an accurate pass from midfielder Federico Valverde. Alone on the far post, the 21-year-old Brazilian’s shot on target proved alone in the fight for Real.
The Reds He took advantage of many more offensive opportunities during the confrontation, but did not know how to hit the target protected by Thibaut Courtois. The goaltender got up on multiple occasions to keep the score intact.
Shortly before the break, center-forward Karim Benzema thought he had scored and gave Real Madrid controls, but canceled his goal after watching the video assistant referee (VAR) for an offside.
Unable to move the meshes of the net in the final, the French still spoke strongly in this assignment, scoring 15 goals this season at various stages of the tournament.
Benzema certainly scored crucial points for the Ballon d’Or, beating rivals Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané, where they are vying for player of the year honor on the soccer planet.
Never two if there are no three. Before beating Liverpool FC, the Spanish club ended the Champions League run of two other English stars, first Chelsea in the quarter-finals, then Manchester City in the semi-finals.
This final is also a continuation of the 2018 edition, which was also won by the Spaniards, on account of 3-1 thanks to the brilliance of Gareth Bale. Liverpool FC’s last league title was built in 2005, when they won a penalty shootout victory over AC Milan.
Note that the meeting started with a delay of 36 minutes due to problems with access to the Stade de France, in Saint-Denis, for football fans.
