Skier Erik Guay, Paralympic swimmer Benoît Huot, hockey players Charline Labonté and Martin St-Louis, as well as mixed martial arts fighter Georges St-Pierre are on the 2022 cohort of the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame.
Erik Guay is the most decorated Canadian alpine skier in history with two world championship titles (down in 2011 and super-G in 2017) on his 25 podiums in the worlds and at the World Cup.
With 20 medals in five appearances at the Paralympic Games, Benoît Huot was a member of the national team from 1998 to 2018. He also collected 30 podiums at the World Championships, in addition to holding 60 world records.
Former goalkeeper Charline Labonté has three gold medals in three Olympic appearances. She is also the second woman after Manon Rhéaume to play in the LHLMQ.
With 1,033 points accumulated in the National Hockey League (NHL), the Montreal Canadiens ’interim head coach, Martin St-Louis, wrote his name at the Stanley Cup in 2004, with the Art-Ross trophy on two occasions, in addition to the Ted-Lindsay and the Lady Bing. He also won Olympic gold in Sochi in 2014.
three letters, GSP, is enough to identify the fifth elected athlete. His nine UFC world belts defenses, a record, have made Georges St-Pierre one of the most recognized athletes on the planet.
To these five big names were added the names of two great builders. They are Michelle Gendron, former general manager of Sports Québec and pioneer of the Quebec Games, as well as Olga Hrycak, legendary basketball coach at the school, college and university level at the helm of Citadins of the University of Quebec to Montreal (UQAM).
The 31st induction gala will take place this fall in Montreal.
