Gabriela Sabatini, 52, and Gisela Dulko, 37, qualified this Friday for the final of the Roland Garros Legends Tournament. They succeeded after the French Tatiana Golovin and Nathalie Tauziat won 6-4 and 6-3 against the couple composed of the Croatian Iva Majoli and the French also Mary Pierce and mathematics played in favor of the Argentine duo.
Sabatini and Dulko will thus face the Italians Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone. It will be this Saturday, around 9 am, in the third round of Suzanne Lenglen’s camp.
The Argentines started this adventure in Paris last Tuesday when they beat Americans Lindsay Davenport and Mary Joe Fernandez with a double 6-3. Then it was a 6-4 and 6-4 defeat against locals Golovin and Tauziat.
And Friday was the time to celebrate once again by beating the duo formed by Majoli, winner of Roland Garros in 1997, and by local Pierce, also champion in Paris but in 2000 and winner of the Australian Open in 1995.
In just over an hour of play, Sabatini and Dulko realized the match against their rivals with a convincing 6-4 and 6-1. That large win allowed him to have a better match difference and advance to the definition despite the fact that he had the same record as Majoli and Pierce and had demanded against them.
A curiosity: Dulko and Pennetta won the Australian Open together in 2011. Now they will be rivals.
