Ontario Rob Thomson was appointed interim manager of the Philadelphia Phillies for the rest of the season after sacking Joe Girardi on Friday.

This is the first time a Canadian has held the position full-time since George Gibson did so in 1934 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Thomson has been the team’s assistant coach and summer camp coordinator for five seasons.

I am ready to lead the team and start working to try to change the trendmentioned by Thomson.

Ontario will cut his work for him. The Phillies are having a frustrating season to say the least.

Expected as a title contender in the National, the Philadelphia team has a record of 23 wins and 29 losses, 11 games behind the New York Mets and 1st place.

As an assistant coach, I spent a lot of time learning other rosters, but not much time in the bullpen, “Thomson explains. I now rely on my coaching staff for preparation.

Manager Joe Girardi paid the price for this season less than expected. He has been in the role since the 2020 season, after enjoying a successful 10-year stint with the New York Yankees.

His team has lost 12 of its last 18 games.

We underperformed and the fault is mine, Girardi dropped. With the talent we have on the team, we can do more.

The Phillies can count on a payroll of 224 million U.S. dollars and several stars, including the most important player of the year 2021, Bryce Harper.

The Philadelphia squad has not qualified for the playoffs since 2011. Its last World Series title was in 2008.
