Wales ended Ukraine’s World Cup hopes with a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon in Cardiff.
The two teams found themselves in a play-off match with tickets for the World Cup to be shown in Qatar in November.
Ukraine, which has been involved in an armed conflict with Russia for more than 100 days, are confident in their chances of qualifying after a 3-1 win over Scotland in the semi-finals.
But Wales, trying to reach the World Cup for the first time since 1958, have played spoilsport.
Supported by noisy supporters, the Welsh opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a free kick.
Ukraine’s Andriy Yarmolenko redirected opposing captain Gareth Bale’s shot past his own keeper to make it 1-0.
The rest of the game was overseen by Welsh goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey. The 35-year-old veteran thwarted the Ukrainian attack several times in the second half.
The nearly two-meter Cerberus made his most impressive save at 83e minutes by stretching his arm to stop a point-blank header.
The Ukrainians, aiming for their first World Cup participation since 2006, came out on top in the final moments of the meeting, but the Welsh defense did not give up.
The Soccer World Cup will take place from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
