While behind the wall, the Edmonton Oilers had to manage without the services of Evander Kane in Game 4 of the Western Final against the Colorado Avalanche. The forward received a one-game suspension for his cross-check with Nazem Kadri.

His penalty was announced Sunday following his hearing before the National Hockey League (NHL) Department of Player Safety.

Early in Game 3, Avalanche won again, Kane cross-checking Kadri, who was close to the boards. Injured in consecutive streaks, the forward is at least the rest of the series against the Oilers.

He’s gone, head coach Jared Bednar said after the Avalanche’s latest win. This shot is one of the most dangerous in hockey. He first pushed his face into the banister, eight feet away from her. That’s all I can say there.

You were taught from an early age not to do that and, above all, at this distance from the tape. This is a dangerous gamesaid captain Gabriel Landeskog.

Kane has been on a roll since arriving in Edmonton earlier this year. He recorded 22 goals and 17 assists in 43 games this season, as well as 13 goals and 4 assists in 15 playoff games.

The Avalanche leads 3-0 in the West Final and will look to complete the sweep Monday in Edmonton. For their part, the Oilers will try to become the fifth team in NHL history to win a series after being caught too far.
