About 300 people identified with soccer teams from Argentina and Brazil clashed yesterday in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in a brawl that resulted in seven injuries.
Asian fans got into a fight by throwing stones and bricks at a cricket pitch on the outskirts of the city, police inspector Masud Rana told AFP news agency.
Authorities indicated that the origin of the massive struggle was the controversy over which of the two South American powers was the best.
Bangladesh, a country without a football tradition, hosts millions of supporters of the Argentine and Brazilian national teams based on the magnetism of their figures, in particular Lionel Messi and Neymar.
The “Albiceleste”, with Rosario as captain, played in that city in front of 40,000 people a friendly match against Nigeria (3-1), on 6 September 2011, in the inaugural tour of Alejandro Sabella’s cycle.
