The season is just one game and the Alouettes are already facing difficulties. We’re not talking about the 30-27 defeat against the Stampeders in Calgary, but rather the injury suffered by William Stanback, the foundation of the Montreal attack.
In pain after experiencing a tackle in the lower body, the ball carrier could not get stuck on the McMahon Stadium field alone. He rode in a cart to return to the side lines, before being offered a wheelchair, under the dismayed gaze of his teammates.
As soon as Stanback fell to the ground, crying, he placed his hands on his left ankle. Head of the Ambrosie circuit last year for runs and rushing yards, player emeritus is the spark plug for the Birds.
Despite the loss of Stanback, the Alouettes did not allow themselves to be overly imposed on offense. Replacement Jeshrun Antwi, the lone running back on the roster, did a decent job when his name was called.
Wrong start
Author of the interception on his very first pass of the season, which led to a touchdown by receiver Malik Henry, quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. immediately confirmed. the response by firing the paying relay in the direction of Stanback.
Adams wasn’t a bit down after making the turnaround. He opened the page to his bad luck and controlled the attack without moving. Truly formed, the pivot put his signature on some electrifying play.
The offensive point guard started where he stopped receiver Eugene Lewis, his favorite target, causing a stir for the secondary Stampeders.
He ran out of time late in the game, however, after Rene Paredes ’successful third field goal was in the hosts’ favor.
Subscribers to the playoffs, the Stampeders started the campaign with 16 consecutive qualifiers, a record on the Canadian circuit, far ahead of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, holders of the 2nd active sequence with five appearances.
The Khari Jones Troopers are expected in Toronto next Thursday for the second local opening, that of the Argonauts, who were inactive in the first week of CFL activities. The Birds will return home on the eve of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day for the Saskatchewan Roughriders visit.
More details to come.
