In a Formula 1 where the fight seemed to be between two, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen -leader of the 9-point championship-, Sergio Checo Pérez entered the fight for 1, especially when it comes to road cars. He has already done it in Monaco, where he took the victory, and this Friday he was the fastest on the road to the Azerbaijani Grand Prix.

The Mexican set the best time this Friday in the first free practice. In his best lap, Checo – the latest winner of this circuit – covered the 6,003 meters of the urban route of the Azerbaijani capital in one minute, 45 seconds and 476 thousandths, 127 less than the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and with an advantage of 334 on teammate Verstappen, World Cup leader, who set the third time of the session.

Spaniards Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Fernando Alonso (Alpine) – like the previous ones, with soft tires – set the fourth and fifth fastest time, respectively at 536 thousandths, one second and 95 thousandths.
