Shock in Algeria: A footballer died one day after scoring a goal for his team

Soccer player billel benhammouda died this Friday in a car accident on his way home after playing for the Algerian national team against Congo in the Four Nations tournament, a competition that includes only players from local leagues.

Benhammouda, 24, scored a penalty and an assist in the 3-0 draw against Congo.

A friend who accompanied him also died in the accident. The match was played at the stadium on July 5, 1962, in the country’s capital.
