Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime was eliminated in the semi-finals of the ‘s-Hertogenbosch tournament in the Netherlands. He lost to Dutchman Tim Van Rijthoven in three sets of 3-6, 6-1 and 6-7 (7/5) on Saturday.
Auger-Aliassime, the second seed of the tournament, folded in two hours and two minutes.
Rijthoven (205th player in the world) has only faced the Quebec player for the second time. Quebecer lost to van Rijthoven in the first round of the 2016 Canada F1 indoor tournament.
The fight was fiercely contested by two athletes. Auger-Aliassime fired 16 aces, against 10 for his opponent, and he won 83% of his points on his first serve.
On the other hand, van Rijthoven was better with his second ball (79%). He only broke up with the Canadian twice on three occasions. For his part, Auger-Aliassime saved six of the seven break points offered to his rival.
Van Rijthoven will face in the final the winner of the match between the favorite, Daniil Medvedev, the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the 70th racket in the world.
The 25-year-old Dutchman is still seeking the first title of his ATP Tour career.
