Mikko Koskinen will not be returning to the Oilers

Mikko Koskinen says goodbye to the Edmonton Oilers.

The goalkeeper, who is due to become an unrestricted free agent next month, has signed a two -year contract with HC Lugano of National League A in Switzerland.

Koskinen has spent the past four years in the Alberta capital. He was 83-59-13 with a .907 save percentage and 2.98 goal-against average.

Finn signed a $ 2.5 million contract before the 2018-19 season after a successful stint in the KHL.

The Oilers later gave him a three -year extension for an average annual salary of 4.5 million.

Koskinen has appeared in several games this season due to injuries suffered by Mike Smith. He finished the season with a 27-12-4 record, a .903 save percentage and a 3.10 GAA.

The 33-year-old was a second-round pick, 31st overall, by the New York Islanders in 2009. He only played four games before returning to Europe in 2011.
