The Golden State Warriors deservedly won Game 5 of the NBA Finals. It was 104-94, at home, and they were one step away from the seventh title. They were much more than the Boston Celtics at San Francisco’s Chase Center. The visit only appeared at the beginning of the third quarter when for the first time he put together four possessions in a row and came into play. But it was just a moment of shock. Then came the reaction in the appearances of the reborn Klay Thompson, plus the enormous game – in both sides of the pitch – of today’s essentials. Andrea Wiggins.
The foundation for success began with defense. As we coaches say: “There is no better help than what is not produced “. And it was just like that: the defense of the ball was wonderful through foot movements that always had a possible break under control. Why does this happen? Primarily due to the human material in the Warrior rotation. No one undergoes the changes they make due to their athletic qualities. This time there was no need for constant help or permanent rotations. Each player was a wall.
Wiggins was exceptional in this aspect, putting himself on physical parity with Jayson Tatum -I don’t remember making it one-on-one. The other great defender – besides being a shooter, of course – is Thompson, who has taken Jaylene Brown. It also coincided with the control that through the defense exercised the improvement in attack of Draymond Green. This time he improved his attack by passing the ball and attacking the basket more.

On the other hand, Boston was uncomfortable for most of the game, except that forfeiture at the beginning of the second half. He felt outside, without offensive or emotional leadership, without resources for there to be a connection on the pitch. His low play volume revealed his very poor effectiveness (34.8% from the field) in the first 12 minutes of play. The problem was purely and exclusively in the stationary attack.
The second quarter was more or less the same, Golden State had situations that he took advantage of too much, such as indirect screens and continuations in the Celtics defensive changes. As the little book says: “The one who tends best is the one who receives the easiest”. So it happened and Green had that reading pass in his best game of the Finals.
However, game 5’s exclusive figure was Wiggins. To what has already been said he did in defense, he added his high productivity in attack, where he was present with long-range shots and attacking the basket. It was decisive.

The Celtics, with only a slight improvement from Marcus Smart, improved dramatically, but their lack of offensive continuity was evident. The start of the second stage showed the best Boston. The reasons are very simple: They can only brown the human material of the Warriors by playing with perimeter four and Robert Williams III. Unfortunately Al Horford struggles back and forth when he confronts the Warriors’ offensive tower. Pivots are important if they hurt. And, in Boston, only Williams hurts with his offensive rebound potential. The Dominican shows slowness in his search for the open field. In this game, once again, he lacked time and space. And he hardly ever moved in the low post.
The Celtics, in addition to changing formation, have always tried to attack the only defensive weakness of the Warriors. I mean, he was always trying to attack Curry. The base was defended by the one who went to the direct blockade on Tatum. By switching, the wing may lose balance with its size and overhead shot. But with Wiggins’ humanity it was impossible for him throughout the game.
The game was another in that third quarter. Were it not for his closing shot on Jordan Poole, the hosts would be behind at half-time for the first time in the match.

Golden State proves more dangerous by playing out four and Green. Defensive changes and offensive oil are much more than the rival. Jordan Poole is extremely dangerous and unpredictable. And being with Stephen Curry pays a lot more. The flaw: he often chooses his shot badly.
Boston has had a hard time matching an open and fast formation like the four lined up by Steve Kerr (Curry-Poole-Thompson and Wiggins). For much of the fourth quarter, a tactical mistake by Celtics manager Ime Udoka left Tatum on par with Poole, who was unstoppable due to the speed difference.
The reaction and breakup occurred game after game of Thompson’s improvement, who just celebrated three years after his injury on Monday. He calls the shots and much more often when Curry is on the bench.

Cards are presented and for different games. Golden State brought out all of its defensive arguments in the fifth inning with a resounding one-on-one and an attack that feels more natural and fluid that only diminishes when Curry rests. The rest of the players improve every night and accompany the number 30, who was an exclusive offensive player in the first three games.
But it seems that he is no longer alone. Wiggins is surprised and present, Thompson is a pure threat, Poole a demon with a goal and Payton Jr a paddock player who with his energy injects the crowd and his teammate.yes Now they help and very well.
It is insisted: Golden State shows in its functioning that it is much more dangerous to play with four outsiders and a false center in this series. Boston is not at ease and if they don’t patch up the human material they will continue to suffer in attack. We’ll see what happens on Thursday at the TD Garden, where the Celtics know there’s no tomorrow.
