Boca and Tigre meet again. Photo: AFP
Boca Juniors, which suffered an unexpected setback last weekend in Santiago del Estero, will receive Tigre today for the third round of the Professional Football League (LPF) with a mission to get back on track.
The match will be played from 9:30 pm in La Bombonera, will be refereed by Jorge Baliño and televised by ESPN Premium.
The “xeneize” team led by Sebastián Battaglia, the current Argentine soccer champion after his coronation in the last League Cup – specifically against Tigre -, started the new national tournament with a victory over Arsenal (2-1 ) in La Boca, and on Sunday they stumbled in Santiago del Estero when they fell against Central Córdoba (1-0).
However, Boca deserved a better result in Santiago del Estero, as they doubled the arrivals compared to their rival, and the defeat, while surprising, did not generate the media coverage that the previous crashes, two months ago, when if the team did not was winning Battaglia hung on a thread.
In this context, the recent title, also the classification in the round of 16 of the Argentine Cup after beating the Ferro Carril Oeste, and the passage to the same instance in Copa Libertadores, with an elimination series against Corinthians (on June 28 in San Pablo and July 5 in La Boca) as a great goal, served to cover the fall in the Professional Football League (LPF).
Ahead will be Tigre, an excellent team that started their season with a win in Santa Fe over Unión (2-1) and then drew at home with Barracas Central (1-1), and it’s the same team that starred in a great League Cup with its access to the final (after eliminating River one on one) and despite being beaten by Boca (3-0) in Córdoba.
The record between the two is 72 games and with a large lead “Xeneize” who has won 48 times against 12 of the Tigre, and there have also been 12 other draws.
