the incredible British Ryan Penistonexecutioner in the initial round of the Norwegian Casper Ruud, ended this Thursday with the adventure of the Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo in the traditional tournament of the queen, one of the classics of the grass in the qualifiers at Wimbledon, after beating him 6-0 in size, 4-6 and 6-4 for the round of 16.
Cerúndolo, who had just beaten Spaniard Pedro Martínez on his debut, recovered from the defeat in the first set and scored the second to reach the 4-2 lead in the third.
However, when he was only two points away from what would have been his second win on the grass, the lights went out and Peniston, with the push of the stand, turned the game around with four games in a row.
The Briton seals the victory, for him the second at a professional level, with a winning return, which catapulted him to the quarter-finals of the Queen’s, where he will face the winner of the duel between the Serbian Filip Krajinovic and the American Sam Querrey.
With this result Peniston will climb 35 positions in the standings next Monday, to position 145, the best of his sporting career.
Cerúndolo, who will enter directly into the Wimbledon draw, where he fell in the last qualifying round last year, remains number 40 in the world, the best ranking of his life, although both Krajinovic, at Queen’s, and Oscar Otte, at Halle, they could get over it if they win the next games.
