Aurélie Rivard world champion in 100m freestyle

Aurélie Rivard won gold in the 100m freestyle (S10 category) at the Para-swimming World Championships on Friday in Portugal.

Rivard improved the world record with a time of 59 s 43/100. He was the only athlete under the minute mark.

The athlete from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu had some tough days at the Worlds, having to give up in the middle of the 400m freestyle final almost 48 hours ago for health reasons.

I really pushed to the maximum to be here. I dug deep into my resources, and I’m really happy I did it because I got this resultsaid Rivard.

It was the second gold medal in these worlds for Rivard, champion of the 50m freestyle. The 26-year-old swimmer won five medals, including two golds, at the recent Paralympic Games in Tokyo. He has 10 Paralympic medals to his name.

Rivard will star on the Canadian swimming team at the Commonwealth Games, which will be held from July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, Great Britain.

My main goal is to finish the race without putting too much pressure on myself in terms of time or results. I was focused on every move and trying to enjoy the moment more than the previous week. I’m happy with what happenedRivard explained.

Hungary’s Bianka Pap took silver in 1: 01.19. Dutchman Lisa Kruger completed the podium in a time of 1: 01.25.

Canadian athletes have now won 14 medals in Portugal: 6 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze.

Earlier in the day, Camille Bérubé took 5th place in the 100m breaststroke (category SB6). That was his last career in the world.

However, the 27-year-old plans to swim in the Commonwealth Games.
