“The product”. This is the expression that is usually used, with an ironic tone, to criticize or report some unusual situation offered by Argentine football. And it has to do with the term that Claudio Tapia used to describe the local competition, in his early days at the helm of the AFA, when he asked to re-evaluate local tournaments.

Well, on this cold Saturday with little football, “the product” has done its duty again, none other than on the Arsenal pitch. Those of Viaducto opened the fourth round of the Professional League against Talleres, in a match without great lights but with special ingredients, such as the possibility of seeing Julio Buffarini in the jersey, who accompanied the squad but was not part of the call.

Another game? Obviously not. A handful of minutes of play were played when a very unusual situation occurred, which soon went viral. The goalkeeper of the Ass, Alejandro Medina, called the referee to signal an inaccuracy in the grass of his area: a huge pile full of mud that was in danger of “bursting” at any moment.

It is said that these latitudes are a constant source of resources in terms of footballers, but from there to see the oil on a field? Is that when the Arsenal players began to step on the deformed grass, the mud began to sprout as if it were black gold coming from the roots of the Julio Humberto Grondona stadium, no less.

A canchero had to enter to try to repair the lawn somehow, trampling, moving and covering the huge hole, mess up your shoes quickly. Some time later, the game was played again. The product never stops.

It also happens in Europe

The critics on duty will have to remember what happened recently, on the occasion of an international match between Austria and Denmark, for the League of Nations.

An image that is rarely seen, especially since it is an official world-class meeting. A huge hole opened in the middle of the playing field during Denmark’s 2-1 win, putting the players’ safety at risk.

The crater suddenly opened on the central circle and left the protagonists speechless, who tried to avoid it during the rest of the match at the Ernst Happel stadium, Austria’s largest capacity. The pictures show its depth and a foot could easily go inside.

“It was maybe half a meter deep. It was in the middle of the pitch, very dangerous if you went in. Someone could have broken a leg, someone’s career could end,” complained the Danish Andreas Skov Olsen, and the coach Kasper too. Hjumand showed his indignation: “What a misery. I saw photos and videos of a huge, huge hole in the middle of the pitch. It was dangerous for the players. This hole was absolutely terrible.”
