Vasek Pospisil can forget about the main draw at Wimbledon. The Canadian bit the dust in the first round of qualifying on Monday, a week before the start of the third round of the grand slam of the season.
Ranked 12th favorite in qualifying and 125th on the world chessboard, Pospisil lowered the flag in two identical sets of 4-6 ahead of the Czech Dalibor Svrcina, who is ranked 184th in the ATP.
The British Columbian, who turns 32 on Thursday, was aiming for a 10th participation in the prestigious London grass tournament. He made his best breakthrough during the 2015 edition, a presence in the quarter-finals.
Since the start of the calendar, Pospisil has mainly played Challenger Series tournaments. He is posting a two-win-one-loss performance this year on the ATP Tour.
Pospisil was the only Canadian representative, regardless of gender, in the Wimbledon qualifier.
His lady-killer has an appointment with the American Christian Harrison in the second round. Qualifying players must win three matches to enter the main draw.
