Ontario sprinter Andre De Grasse is forced to withdraw from the Canadian Track and Field Championships, which begin Wednesday in British Columbia, after being infected with the coronavirus.
The multiple Olympic medalist won the 100m at the Diamond League stage in Oslo, Norway last week.
De Grasse then crossed the finish line in 10 s 5/100, his best time of the season.
I’m obviously quite disappointed not to be able to race in the country in front of the Canadian amateurs in Langley. I hope I can get back to training soon enough and prepare for the rest of the season.De Grasse said in a statement on Tuesday.
Several other high-profile athletes will be absent from their National Championships, including decathlete Damian Warner, runners Moh Ahmed, Justyn Knight and Gabriela DeBues-Stafford, and wheelchair athlete Brent Lakatos.
The World Athletics Championships will be held July 15-24 in Eugene, Oregon.
