Boca’s technical director Sebastián Battaglia tried again this Wednesday with a replacement team, with the exception of Colombian winger Frank Fabra, ahead of Friday’s match against the Unión de Santa Fe, in La Bombonera, for the fifth round of the Professional Football League tournament.
With the intent to protect the usual holders for the clash on Tuesday 28 with Corinthians in San Pablo, Brazil, for the first leg of the second round of the Libertadores, Battaglia plans to put an alternate formation to face Tatengue.
The eleven will be with Javier García; Marcelo Weigandt, Nicolás Figal, Carlos Zambrano and Fabra; Cristian Medina, Jorman Campuzano and Aaron Molinas; Luca Langoni, Luis Vázquez and Eduardo Salvio.
Fabra will be the holder because a date in the Copa Libertadores is suspendedfor having reached the three yellow cards, and at the same time the return of Salvio is confirmed, already healed from a grade 1 muscle injury to his right hamstring.
Salvio’s contract expires on 30 June but he already has a renewal proposal from the Football Council. Beyond the fact that it is economically rather poor, the attacker’s idea is to stay in the country and this would facilitate the agreement.
The other novelty of the team is the return of Campuzano: It will be his first game this semester and he has been offered a contract renewal despite it only expiring on June 30, 2023.
The 26-year-old Colombian midfielder has lost ground after the reappearance of Alan Varela and having arrived a day later the rest of the squad on vacation.
He only made his League Cup debut against Colón, Independiente and Tigre, and spent three months without turning between winning Always Ready in Bolivia and winning 2-0 over Matador in Victoria. Now his surname has returned to strengthen in the consideration of the DT before the version of an alleged interest of Carlos Tevez to take him to Rosario Central, where he has taken the post of coach.
Campuzano could also have a chance to be in midfield on Tuesday at San Pablo if Battaglia finally changes his tactical design and plays with four midfielders.
Meanwhile, the contract with the young Alexander Fernández was extended until December 31, 2024 and was sold to Peyla, from Cyprus, without charges or right of redemption.
The team will return to training this Thursday afternoon at the Pedro Pompilio complex before being concentrated in a hotel in the Monserrat district. Agustín Rossi, Carlos Izquierdoz, Marcos Rojo, Luis Advíncula, Agustín Sández, Alan Varela, Esteban Rolón, Guillermo Fernández, Óscar Romero, Sebastián Villa, Exequiel Zeballos and Darío Benedetto will join the 11 players mentioned.
Boca will receive the Union de Santa Fe on Friday from 21:30, for the fifth round of the Professional League and with the arbitration of Yael Falcón Pérez.
