Mavrik Bourque scored a goal and skilfully set up Xavier Bourgault’s – two plays on the power play – and the Cataractes took a 2-1 lead over the Hamilton Bulldogs after 20 minutes of play.
The Cataractes got into hot water early in the game, giving the Bulldogs a double power play. Lou-Félix Denis and Zachary Massicotte were chased away in just 23 seconds. The Bulldogs didn’t ask for that much. Mason McTavish fired a perfect one-timer that gave goalkeeper Antoine Coulombe no chance.
The Ontario champions controlled the start of the game, until their indiscipline opened the door for the Cataractes. Mavrik Bourque faked the shot and saw his teammate Xavier Bourgault who had been forgotten to the right of goalkeeper Marco Costantini who did not have time to react.
With an equal score of 1 to 1 halfway through the first, the Cataractes in turn obtained a double numerical superiority. Captain Bourque, used at the point, unleashed a cannonball on the throw-in to make it 2-1, just two seconds after the start of the power play.
