The Formula 1 stop for the European summer has not yet arrived, but the market has already begun. Red Bull led the way by confirming the continuity of Checo Pérez until 2024, which led Pierre Gasly to make a decision. Not being able to access the first team, the French driver will remain at the Alpha Tauri.
At the end of Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix, team boss Franz Tost had teased that it was “100% confirmed” that Gasly would be staying in 2023, but this has now been confirmed by the team.
“We are very happy to confirm that Pierre will stay with us in 2023. He is certainly in the group of the best and most competitive F1 drivers and he showed his skills throughout the time he spent with us, ”Tost said on Friday.
And he stressed: “Without a doubt, Pierre can play an important role in the team to have a successful season next year and it’s up to us to provide you with a competitive carso you can continue to deliver excellent results. “
It’s just that Gasly wanted to go to a team where he could not only demonstrate his potential but also be competitive. And that option was Red Bull, the structure with which he has a contract until the end of 2023. But with the confirmation of the Mexican Pérez, in the end he chose not to leave and to remain in the satellite team, relegated to the middle of the grill.
For this reason, without too many options in the big names (Mercedes and Ferrari have their drivers confirmed also for next season), Gasly has chosen to keep the contract to stay in Formula 1.
“The 26-year-old Frenchman has been with us since 2017 and this continuity will be a great advantagebecause he enjoys an excellent working relationship with his engineering group and with all team members, “AlphaTauri explained in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Frenchman had been promoted to Red Bull in 2019 but the Austrian team, judging that the performance was not up to Max Verstappen, did not leave him time and lowered the Frenchman to Toro Rosso (formerly AlphaTauri) in mid-season. to put in Alex Albon.
Since then, Gasly has taken a win at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix. He has also been on the podium twice, in Brazil 2019 and in Azerbaijan 2021, as well as collecting 95 Grand Prix since 2017. According to Tost, Gasly “is part of the group of the best F1 drivers”.
“It’s been five years since I’ve been on this team and I am proud of the road we have traveled together and the progress we have made. I’m happy to stay with my team, Scuderia AlphaTauri, “said the driver, who put an end to the mystery and ensured his continuity in the team that has an Argentine, Nicolás Bianco, among its mechanics.

It was not the easiest start to the 2022 season for Gasly, who is currently 11th in the standings with 16 points, while last year was Gasly’s first in F1 in which he scored over 100 points.
“This year’s new regulations have created new challenges for us and being able to plan our development with the team for the next 18 months is a good basis to work on in the future”, He acknowledged that he will move forward in a place that until not long ago he only thought of starting in search of bigger challenges at the top of the championship.
