While the European football season is on hiatus and agents move into the middle of the transfer market, an Argentine stands as one of the most sought after figures for the next season on the Old Continent. This is Lisandro Martínez, one of Ajax’s greatest figures, who has won the Eredivisie title and who seems to be making an imminent leap towards a more competitive league. Of course, in exchange, the Amsterdam team is asking for a top player figure.

The defender, who adds more and more minutes with the Argentine national team, and who every day is more and more excited to be present at the World Cup in Qatar, has established himself as one of the most sought after defenders in European football. If one thing was clear, it was that it would be difficult for Ájax to support Martínez, and even more so now that the offers are starting to arrive.

When there has been a lot of speculation about Manchester United’s approach, one that has given a shot of authority and has offered himself 40 million euros staying with Lisandro Martínez was the Arsenal. The London team has just closed the incorporation of Gabriel Jesus in exchange for a millionaire, but they want to continue to strengthen.

According to the British newspaper The Mirror, the Gunners were the first to formalize an interest in acquiring the pass for central defender from Entre Ríos, and the offer could convince the Dutch. In fact, just a few weeks ago Arsenal had offered 30 million euros for the defender. That offer was quickly discarded by Ajax.

And if anything is clear with this move, it is that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are willing to make an effort to strengthen a squad that has just finished fifth in the Premier League, thus securing a place in the next edition of the Europa League. Ajax, on the other hand, will play Champions. Will it be a key factor in Martínez’s decision?

His future in the Premier

And just as the reigning champion of America with the Argentine national team is of interest to Arsenal, it would also be in Erik ten Hag’s plans. The Haaksbergen native knew how to handle the 24-year-old Ajax center-back and, with his arrival on the Manchester United bench, would have placed Martínez on the list of possible reinforcements.

The truth is that, at least for now, United have not accelerated, and the only offer Ajax has on the table is Arsenal. What is clear is that for his profile and characteristics of him, Lisandro Martínez steals the eyes of the giants of the Premier League, and his future could be in England.

Lisandro, who was able to defend the colors of Newell’s and Defensa y Justicia in Argentina, has more than satisfied his first experience in European football. Now, could become the second most expensive Argentine defender in history after Nicolás Otamendimoved from Valencia to Manchester City in 2015 for € 45m.
