On Thursday the Argentine national team won a big away victory over Venezuela ahead of the 2023 Basketball World Cup. At the Luis Ramos stadium in the city of Puerto La Cruz, they won 69-66 thanks to an extraordinary performance by Facundo Campazzo, who also had the pleasure of being captain of the national team for the first time.

Campazzo, who has yet to understand his future – will he continue in the NBA? – he finished an exceptional performance with 29 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 recovery and 1 block. The point guard, who has just played for the Denver Nuggets, was instrumental in the comeback built by the team led by Néstor Che García. Also important are Marcos Delía, who finished with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 passes and 3 blocks, and Patricio Garino who was flawless in the triples, scoring 3/3 to finish with 9 units.

It’s that Venezuela made a good difference at the start of the duel. With good long-range aim and prevailing in the two keys, the cast led by Fernando Duró settled down and played casually, taking advantage of the defeats of Argentina, who tried to get into the game – they scored an 11- run. 0 between the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second – but he always ran from behind.

The first half ends 42-31 in favor of the landlord. And the trend continued into the third quarter. Only in the last period a flurry of points from Campazzo, assisted by the leadership of Luca Vildoza, allowed the game to equalize.

Thus, when it seemed that he would never arrive, the circle opened up at the National team and the triple from Campazzo and Garino arrived, which allowed them to take the lead on the scoreboard and manage a difference beyond the closed fund.

On the plus side, beyond Campazzo’s impressive performance, the defense was up to the task and Che García’s men left Venezuela under 70 points.

Argentina remained with a record of 4-1 in qualifiers, the same record as Venezuela, albeit with a worse point difference. Argentina’s next presentation for the third window will be this Sunday, from 7:10 pm, when it visits Panama, at the Roberto Durán Arena (Panama City).

From next 25 August, before what will be the Americup to be played in Brazil from 2 September, the matches of the second round will begin. There the Argentine team will look to stay with one of the continent’s seven spots for next year’s big event.
