The spectacle of free, here and there. Salvio, Dybala, Di María, Suárez, Rollheiser are some of the cases of players who left the club for free.
When money and desire collide in professional football, the former often wins. And it is logical that this is the case: after all it is a paid job. From there, therefore, it is worthwhile to understand why a significant number of players from the main world championships have been discharged since this Friday: the clubs have not been able to meet their request.
The list finds prominent names in Europe, such as Ángel Di María, Paulo Dybala, Ousmane Dembélé, Luis Suárez and Paul Pogba, and also in Argentina, such as Cristian Pavón, Eduardo Salvio, Fabricio Angileri, Domingo Blanco, Alejandro Donatti and Nery Dominguez . Some already have new equipment; others negotiate with the pass in their possession and speculate on the possibility of entering into long-term or strong economy contracts.
The questions pile up: How many millions of dollars did Boca miss with the departures of Cristian Pavón and Eduardo Salvio? Would Fabricio Angileri and Benjamín Rollheiser have been alternatives to face Vélez? Did Eduardo Domínguez’s discomfort begin when he was told there was no agreement with Domingo Blanco? Was there something between the Racing team and the management due to the painful departure of Nery Domínguez? Wouldn’t Gino Peruzzi and Alejandro Donatti have a place in the San Lorenzo full of Ruben Darío Insua’s youth teams?

In Argentina, clubs took different measures regarding the players who would be released. River has stood still and marginalized this semester Angileri and Rollheiser, who have already organized with the students. Boca did the same with Pavón and used Toto Salvio until the last moment, who traveled to Mexico to join the Pumas. In Independiente, Eduardo Domínguez hoped to keep mingo Blanco, Andrés Roa and Carlos Benavídez and that is why he used them in several games. But the renewal negotiations did not go through. There are several cases of Donatti and Peruzzi: the San Lorenzo has decided to do without both before the start of the year.
In Racing there was unease about the way Nery Domínguez had to leave the team. The central scorer intended to remain in the Avellaneda cast and the management just offered him a powerful contract when he had already agreed with the Universidad de Chile. His comrades fired him with emotion and the Cylinder gave him a loud applause. “It was a long negotiation that didn’t go through. But that’s it. There have been many years here, unique moments I’ve experienced, wonderful people I’ve met. I was able to close my cycle here with a good night, greeting the fans who are always there “said Nery after the victory against Aldosivi.

But the issue is not limited only to the big names. Colón was also one of the protagonists of the winter transfer market as he could not stop the departure of Rodrigo Aliendro (al River) and Federico Lértora, who will go to Xolos, from Mexico, at the end of the series against Talleres. Of course: Cristian Bernardi, captain of the Copa Libertadores against Talleres in Cordoba, held.
Sabalero, however, could benefit from his rival’s farewell as midfielder Juan Ignacio Méndez ends his relationship with Talleres and is close to becoming a reinforcement for Julio César Falcioni’s side.
For its part, Rosario Central has suffered a new defeat in attack as Lucas Gamba will not renew permanently after having rejected the latest offer of the management and will be a free player. The 35-year-old arrived at Canalla in mid-2019, played 89 games and scored 14 goals.
Even in Europe
Clubs in Europe are also going through the same situation as Argentina: the post-pandemic economic crisis is being felt all over the planet. And on the market there are famous people with the free sign. According to FIFA’s 2021 transfer report, 66.8% of arrivals made in summer 2021 were non-contract players, an increase of four points compared to 2020 (60.7%) and two points compared to 2019 (64.3 %). Does this indicate a new era in the world of transfers? Perhaps. Although this figure has already risen to 68.1% in 2015, it has gradually decreased before increasing last year.
Perhaps the most emblematic case is that of Luis Suárez. El Pistolero has concluded his contract with Atlético de Madrid, which has decided not to renew it. The Uruguayan intended to stay another year in the Spanish capital. Now, with the World Cup on the horizon, the 35-year-old striker is looking for a club. His primary intention is to continue in a strong European team that guarantees him minutes. For now this does not happen and River Leader’s dream is still alive. Will they announce the Uruguayan if Marcelo Gallardo’s team beat Vélez in the round of 16?
Two of the most sought after by the market are Ángel Di María and Paulo Dybala. The situations are different, the same. El Fideo intends to sign a one-year contract in Europe to prepare for Qatar and return to Rosario in mid-2023. The Italian media assure that he has everything in agreement with Juventus: he will charge 6 million euros for a season.

“Good luck, Joya” was the message published by Juventus on its website and on social networks to fire Paulo Dybala after 7 seasons. Cordovan have scored 115 goals and provided 45 assists in their 293 games with the Old Lady. “A young and talented promise has arrived, and now he greets Juventus, bringing with him an experience that has made him the champion he is”, adds the note on the Argentine, who celebrated 12 league titles in the club.
But what will be the future of Dybala? The strongest proposal is that of Inter de Italia, a cast that has already included Romelu Lukaku and that has Lautaro Martínez in franchising. The question arises: would Inter have the minutes necessary to enter Scaloni’s list?
Paul Pogba, Ousmane Dembélé, Christian Eriksen, Isco Alarcón, Andrea Belotti, Jesse Lingard, Corentin Tolisso, Divock Origi, Federico Bernardeschi, David Ospina, Henrikh Mkhitaryan are others who are left without clubs in Europe.
One thing is clear: free players are the protagonists of the transfer market.
