Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios, the two protagonists of this Sunday’s Wimbledon final, were encouraged to perform a fun bet in the preview of the definition of the third Grand Slam of the season: They met for dinner regardless of the outcome, but whoever wins will pay the bill.
It was through a crossover of messages on the social network Instagram, where the Australian – for the first time in a match of this caliber – and the Serbian, looking for a seventh title and his 21st Grand Slam on the London lawn, they also remembered their old disputes.
“It took you five years to say something good about me”joked Djokovic, to decompress.
“True, but I defended you when it mattered”replied Kyrgios, one of the few players who publicly supported freight when due to his decision not to get vaccinated against the coronavirus he was excluded from the Australian Open and expelled from that country.

“You did and I appreciate it”Djokovic replied.
“So we’re friends now?”returned the Australian.
“If you invite me for a drink or dinner, I accept. And the winner (of the final) will pay”concluded the Serbian.
“Deal. Let’s go to a nightclub and go crazy”Kyrgios proposed, in a possible allusion to a photo of Djokovic in Belgrade, shirtless, in a nightclub in June 2020, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Kyrgios then criticized Djokovic for organizing a series of tournaments in Serbia, the Adria Tour, despite the pandemic, and accused him of “Lack of humility”. But then she supported him, to general surprise, during the soap opera that ended with his expulsion from Australia.
