The elimination of the Copa Libertadores against Vélez at Monumental, with the controversy over the VAR in the middle, was the last image of Enzo Fernandez with the River Plate shirt before his trip to Portugal to join Benfica.

The dream come true of playing with “the colors I wanted to wear” and gratitude to the coaching staff, his teammates and the fans, whom he defined as “an incredible audience that supported me for better or for worse”.

Emerged from the lower River Plate, Enzo Fernández made his professional debut on January 4th 2020, for the Copa Libertadores, in a match in which Marcelo Gallardo provided the most substitutes and ended in a 3-0 defeat as a guest against the Liga de Quito. He entered for Santiago Sosa in the 35th minute of the second half.
Those few ten minutes were the only ones on the pitch during his first stop at Nuñez’s club.
